Yellow flowers.
They caught my eye at the side of the road. Tiny, petalled warriors, insistent on having the attention they feel they deserve amidst the oversight of green and roaring cars.
Maybe it wasn't so much the flowers that fixated me as much as the colour. It seems somewhat bold compared to the normal hues of pink and white, even red is rare. I don't even notice green anymore, automatically filed and classified in my mind as shrubs. With such a stunning colour, it took me a second look to realise that the flowers were actually quite small, nor were they in anyway as exquisite as roses or tulips. You don't have to be extraordinary to stand out, you just have to know how to stand out.
Somehow, those flowers, etched in my mind with merely two glances, felt like a paintbrush of rejuvenation. They made me think, of life, of people, of people in my life, of life and people. A little dash of happy-clappy into the pepper-scented air.
Maybe that was why I decided to try crossing a 8 lane expressway, and managed to do it alive.
Dangerous freedom, or so Maria calls it.
