I realised that ironically, doing the arts course in JC has marred my writing. Where I used to play with expressions, phrasing and styles, all these have been pushed aside to make way for rationality and an insipid attempt to sound poetic, which in most cases is often defined as morose, depressed and melancholic.
Having someone call me the scion of an elitist (elite just isn't the right word) stream in JC made me truly realise how I was viewed by people outside of my little bubble. Somehow there was a need to live up to it, to take 2 S papers and make forages into the top universities all over the world, to spout all things poetic and well-read, the disciples of Hemmingway and Blake, articulate and sophisticated snobs.
In my opinion, I've lived up to less than half of it. 2 S papers? Check. Poetic? (attempted to) so Check. Dropped the names of great authors to impress people? Check. Done the drama crap? Check. Talked the hind legs off a horse? Check. Sophistication? Check. Snob? Check.
What do I get in the end? I'll see on friday. After I spend the morning queueing for donuts. 15 flavours! Booooooo for wasabi cheese. Chocolate donuts are the best :)
